Vietnam Urges Enhanced ASEAN+3 Economic Collaboration in Trade, Energy, Digital Sectors

During the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Việt Nam’s Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung made a strong case for enhanced economic integration and regional resilience. Addressing his counterparts from ASEAN member states as well as China, Japan, and South Korea, he stressed the need for deeper collaboration across various sectors such as trade, connectivity, and sustainable development. Trung highlighted the critical importance of implementing regional trade agreements effectively and called for expanded cooperation in key areas including energy security, food security, digital transformation, innovation, and clean energy.

Trung also brought attention to the potential of regional energy cooperation mechanisms, suggesting that such initiatives could play a vital role in fortifying the region against future economic and geopolitical challenges. His remarks underscored the necessity for a united approach to tackle regional issues and to build a more robust economic landscape. This meeting served as a platform to reaffirm ASEAN+3’s significance in fostering regional cooperation.

Participants in the meeting reached a consensus on the need to expedite the ASEAN+3 Work Plan for 2023–2027, reflecting their commitment to advancing shared goals. Discussions also centered on enhancing financial cooperation, expanding regional food reserves, promoting renewable energy projects, and boosting investment in sectors such as education, technology, tourism, and cultural exchanges. These measures are seen as vital steps in ensuring a sustainable and resilient future for the region.

China, Japan, and South Korea expressed their continued support for ASEAN’s central role in managing regional affairs. They reiterated their commitment to assisting in the advancement of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, a long-term strategic framework aimed at strengthening the ASEAN community. Their assurances signal a continued partnership and cooperation in addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the region.
