In a series of meetings in Seoul, Vietnam’s National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn engaged with leaders of some of South Korea’s largest conglomerates, aiming to bolster investment in Vietnam’s high-tech and sustainable sectors. At the center of these discussions was the push for increased South Korean investment in fields like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and energy. This initiative is part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to enhance its economic ties with South Korea, particularly in advanced technology and digital industries.
During his meeting with Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon, Mẫn acknowledged Samsung’s significant role in Vietnam’s economic landscape through investments that have spurred job creation and boosted state revenue. He urged Samsung to further its commitment to high-tech investments in Vietnam, aligning these efforts with the country’s ongoing economic development goals. Roh assured that Samsung remains dedicated to supporting Vietnam’s priorities in digital transformation and technological innovation, emphasizing the company’s contributions through smart factory and skills-development programs.
Mẫn also held discussions with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, where he championed greater investments in semiconductors, AI, and renewable energy. The SK Group’s proposal to set up a substantial AI center in Vietnam was met with enthusiasm, alongside its intentions to explore energy infrastructure and AI data center investments. These initiatives are seen as pivotal to advancing Vietnam’s technological landscape and energy infrastructure.
Further emphasizing Vietnam’s importance in global production networks, Mẫn conversed with LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo. He highlighted LG Group’s substantial $10 billion investment in Vietnam and advocated for deeper collaboration with local suppliers to enhance technology and skills development. LG acknowledged Vietnam’s strategic importance in its global operations, indicating a commitment to expanding its engagement with the country’s industrial landscape.
In a meeting with Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, Mẫn encouraged Lotte to amplify its investments in smart urban development, infrastructure, tourism, and services. He stressed the importance of accelerating crucial projects with a keen focus on sustainability, green development, and adhering to ESG standards. These dialogues underscore Vietnam’s proactive approach to attracting high-quality foreign investment while strengthening economic cooperation with South Korea in vital sectors.
