Efforts to clamp down on counterfeit products in Thailand have intensified as the country undertakes the destruction of over 2 million counterfeit goods confiscated in intellectual property violation cases. This initiative marks a significant increase from last year, with authorities set to dispose of 2.08 million items—a 36.45% rise from the 1.52 million seized in 2025. The monetary value of these goods has also seen a substantial increase, reaching THB2.14 billion compared to the previous year’s THB900.91 million.
The range of counterfeit products slated for destruction is vast, encompassing clothing, watches, bags, electronic equipment, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, food, and beverages, among other consumer items. These goods were seized through enforcement operations targeting both online and offline markets, underscoring the widespread nature of the counterfeit issue.
To ensure that the disposal process does not adversely affect the environment, the destruction is being conducted at facilities equipped with environmental management systems located in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This approach is intended to safely eliminate the counterfeit products while minimizing any potential harm to nearby communities.
Despite these efforts, Thailand continues to be listed on the Watch List in the 2026 Special 301 Report concerning intellectual property protection and enforcement. In response, Thai authorities are advancing a collaborative intellectual property work plan with the United States. This initiative aims to bolster enforcement measures, curb the sale of counterfeit goods, protect consumers, and foster a more transparent business environment.
