Vietnam and Canada have solidified their commitment to a Strategic Partnership by adopting an Action Plan that outlines specific areas for enhanced cooperation. This development was marked by a meeting in Ottawa between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
The Action Plan is an effort to translate the commitments made by the leaders of the two nations into tangible programs and projects. It encompasses a wide array of sectors, including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
A key aspect of the agreement is the regular review and updating of the plan to ensure its relevance and effectiveness. Both ministers emphasized the need for stronger coordination among government agencies, local authorities, and businesses to facilitate successful implementation.
Further strengthening their bilateral relations, Vietnam and Canada agreed to bolster existing consultation mechanisms and explore new dialogue frameworks that are strategically significant. Additionally, they discussed regional and international issues, expressing their intent to increase cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC.
In a gesture of mutual support, Vietnam and Canada have committed to assisting each other in hosting future APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029. Vietnam also voiced its support for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028, highlighting the countries’ collaborative spirit on the global stage.
