In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, representatives from Vietnam and Japan committed to advancing cooperation between their respective ruling parties and legislative bodies. The discussions took place between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Both parties expressed their enthusiasm for the continued development of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and agreed to enhance political dialogue and increase parliamentary exchanges, building upon the Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc highlighted Vietnam’s robust economic growth and ongoing reforms in administration. During the talks, he proposed that Japan could provide valuable insights into local governance and decentralization, which would be beneficial for Vietnam’s institutional development. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in several key areas, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. He also advocated for closer ties between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and more exchanges involving young lawmakers.
The Vietnamese delegation also requested ongoing support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan. They proposed discussions around simplifying the visa procedures, aiming ultimately for visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens to Japan, which would facilitate easier movement and strengthen people-to-people connections.
On the Japanese side, Hagiuda Koichi expressed a strong commitment to broadening bilateral cooperation. He noted that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party, along with its parliament, would continue to promote exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in the fields of advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This approach aligns with the mutual interests of both nations in pursuing technological and environmental advancements.
