In a recent discussion between Vietnamese Ambassador Phạm Hùng Tâm and Chief Minister Andrew Barr of Australia’s Australian Capital Territory (ACT), both parties committed to enhancing collaboration among Hà Nội, Ho Chi Minh City, and Canberra. Ambassador Tâm expressed optimism about Barr’s forthcoming visit to the Vietnamese cities, anticipating it would pave the way for new cooperative ventures. He pointed out the promising opportunities in areas such as renewable energy, education, innovation, tourism, and the development of smart urban areas.
Further, Ambassador Tâm suggested the establishment of a formal friendship and cooperation agreement between Hà Nội and the ACT. This agreement aims to foster sustained partnerships across a range of sectors, providing a structured framework for long-term collaboration. Such an agreement could serve as a catalyst in strengthening ties and facilitating joint efforts in various domains.
Chief Minister Barr, preparing for his inaugural visit to Việt Nam, recognized the country as one of the ACT’s key economic partners within its international engagement strategy. He showed enthusiasm for the proposed sister-city relationship with Hà Nội, seeing it as a foundation to explore joint initiatives. Barr highlighted the potential for cooperation in green transition projects, electric transport systems, and renewable energy efforts, all of which align with goals to achieve net-zero emissions by the year 2050.
Additionally, Barr expressed his readiness to engage in public diplomacy initiatives during upcoming visits by senior Vietnamese leaders to Australia. This willingness underscores the ACT’s commitment to nurturing a robust and multifaceted relationship with Việt Nam. As both regions focus on sustainable development, these diplomatic efforts are anticipated to strengthen mutual ties and facilitate shared achievements in meeting environmental and economic objectives.
