Residents across Thailand have been urged to brace themselves for persistent rainfall and potential flooding as the intensity of the southwest monsoon continues to rise across the nation. The Smart Water Operation Centre has issued alerts, emphasizing the need for vigilance, especially in eastern regions and the western coastal areas of southern Thailand, where heavy rain and isolated downpours are most likely to occur.
The weather agencies have attributed this adverse weather pattern to a robust southwest monsoon impacting the Andaman Sea, the wider region of Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. In addition, a monsoon trough extending from northern Thailand into Vietnam has been identified as a contributing factor to the proliferation of thunderstorms across these areas.
Forecasts indicate that from June 30 to July 3, scattered storms and significant rainfall will be prevalent, with the highest threat levels anticipated in eastern Thailand and along the southern west coast. The situation is expected to evolve between July 4 and July 6 as the monsoon system gradually migrates northward, maintaining the country’s exposure to strong southwest winds and ongoing rainfall.
Authorities have stressed the importance of staying informed about the latest weather developments and maintaining a state of readiness for possible flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in regions identified as vulnerable. Community members are encouraged to heed official advisories and prepare for swift changes in weather conditions that could lead to sudden flooding.
