As regional security challenges continue to evolve, authorities from Vietnam and Cambodia have resolved to deepen their collaborative efforts to enhance border security. This commitment was reaffirmed during a recent conference held in Tây Ninh, Vietnam, where police forces from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces gathered to strategize on maintaining public order along their shared border.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the current state of cooperation and identified key areas for improvement, particularly in tackling cross-border criminal activities. The provinces have been actively engaged in information exchanges and joint operations aimed at curbing crimes such as drug and human trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, and online fraud. These efforts underscore the pressing need for robust communication channels and regular interactions to respond swiftly to criminal activities that transcend borders.
The conference also highlighted the necessity of reinforcing patrols and surveillance along border trails and crossings. Such measures are critical to preventing illegal entries and exits that could facilitate organized, transnational crime networks. Additionally, the provinces agreed to bolster their collaborative efforts against terrorism, arms trafficking, and emerging high-tech crimes, while addressing non-traditional security threats that may arise.
Concluding the conference, representatives from the four provincial police forces signed a memorandum of cooperation. This document formalizes their commitment to crime prevention and the maintenance of security and public order in the border regions, reflecting a shared understanding of the challenges posed by cross-border crime and the importance of a united front in addressing these issues effectively.
