Vietnam’s National Assembly is set to convene its 16th assembly for an extraordinary session in Hanoi from August 3 to August 24. During this session, lawmakers are poised to tackle an extensive legislative agenda that includes deliberations on numerous significant national projects. This assembly will be dedicated to the consideration of 33 agenda items, comprising the passage of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. It will also include the first readings of seven additional bills and discussions on seven critical national issues.
The legislative proposals to be examined span a variety of sectors, including petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense. These areas of focus reflect the broad scope of legislative efforts aimed at addressing pressing concerns within the country and enhancing its regulatory framework to support development.
In addition to legislative matters, lawmakers will scrutinize several key infrastructure and development projects. Among these are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project, and the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project. These initiatives are part of Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to improve its infrastructure and energy capabilities to meet future demands.
The session will also assess the establishment of new urban centers with the proposed designation of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh as cities. Further, special policy mechanisms are on the agenda, aimed at advancing renewable energy, projects related to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027, and the country’s digital transformation strategy. These discussions highlight Vietnam’s strategic priorities in fostering sustainable growth and technological advancement.
