In a bid to bolster the digital capabilities of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), Vietnam, along with other Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies, is intensifying efforts to facilitate digital transformation and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to enhance productivity and competitiveness among these enterprises. During a recent APEC workshop held in Hanoi, Vietnamese officials underscored the critical role of technology transfer, the advancement of digital skills, and fostering innovation as key factors in supporting the growth and development of MSMEs.
The workshop gathered a diverse array of participants including representatives from APEC member economies, international organizations, and leading technology firms. Discussions centered on the adoption of AI, the establishment of digital infrastructure, and improved access to financial resources, as well as strategies to address the digital divide. These discussions are pivotal as stakeholders strive to ensure that MSMEs are equipped to navigate and thrive in the increasingly digital global marketplace.
Moreover, this workshop serves as a stepping stone towards Vietnam’s preparations to host the APEC summit in 2027. One of the key objectives of the gathering is to formulate policy recommendations that advocate for responsible AI usage and to foster stronger regional cooperation in the digital economy. By doing so, APEC aims to create a more inclusive and sustainable economic environment for all member economies.
