Vietnam and Singapore are poised to bolster their political trust and enhance strategic collaboration as both nations aim to advance cooperation in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm is set to embark on a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the relationship between the two countries has matured beyond traditional economic ties, increasingly focusing on future-driven sectors that promote long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.
In 2025, the bilateral relationship was upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership, highlighting the deepening political trust and shared strategic priorities between Vietnam and Singapore. Singapore continues to be a critical economic partner for Vietnam, ranking as its second-largest foreign investor. The city-state has numerous active projects in Vietnam across various sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. The Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network stands as a prominent example of this cooperation, expanding towards greener and smarter industrial models in line with sustainable development objectives.
Both countries are actively increasing collaboration in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are underway to link innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both nations. During Tô Lâm’s visit, economic cooperation is anticipated to remain a central focus, with an emphasis on strengthening ties in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.
Initiatives such as “Tech Connect” are expected to forge stronger connections between governments, academic institutions, research bodies, and private companies in areas like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is also anticipated to support the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Vietnam. Additionally, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a premier security forum in the region. Vietnamese officials view this invitation as a testament to Vietnam’s growing international stature and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
