Vietnam and Malaysia are actively seeking to broaden their defense collaboration as both nations aim to enhance their bilateral relations and contribute to maintaining regional stability. In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, engaged in discussions with Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. During the talks, Giang commended the ambassador for his role in strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The dialogue between Vietnam and Malaysia has seen significant advancements in defense relations, as evidenced by regular military exchanges, policy dialogues, and training collaborations. These efforts are complemented by both nations’ coordinated participation in international and multilateral events, reflecting their commitment to a robust partnership in defense matters.
General Giang underscored the importance of continuing the momentum by implementing existing agreements and enhancing engagement through high-level meetings and defense cooperation frameworks. He extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defense leadership and companies to partake in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, slated to be held in Hanoi, as a further step in deepening bilateral defense ties.
Dato’ Tan Yang Thai expressed gratitude towards Vietnam’s defense ministry and military for their support during his tenure. He conveyed optimism that the defense relationship between the two nations would continue to flourish, ultimately contributing to peace and prosperity within the region.
