Thailand is enhancing its global aviation connections through strategic collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, alongside efforts to upgrade its regional airport infrastructure. These initiatives aim to bolster connectivity and support the tourism industry.
In a move to accommodate growing travel demands, Vietnam Airlines inaugurated a new route connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Phuket on July 2. The service operates four times a week, offering an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. This route caters to the increasing number of Vietnamese travelers visiting Thailand, which exceeded 300,000 in the first half of the year.
Meanwhile, flydubai launched daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting July 1. The airline plans to increase the frequency of these flights to twice daily beginning September 15, further strengthening the travel corridor between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
On a separate note, Thailand is set to introduce the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports to enhance air traffic management and operational efficiency. This initiative will also improve access to secondary cities. The AFIS system is scheduled for initial implementation at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with considerations to expand to additional regional airports in the future.
