Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), highlighting the Five-Point Consensus as the crucial framework for guiding the nation towards peace and stability. During an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers held in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s recognition of Myanmar as a vital member of ASEAN and expressed support for initiatives aimed at fostering national reconciliation, economic recovery, and enhanced governance.
In his address, Lê Hoài Trung urged ASEAN to take more practical and tangible steps, advocating for consistent dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar to effectively monitor developments and encourage substantial progress. Vietnam has expressed a willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member countries to assist Myanmar in addressing social issues, combating transnational crime, and bolstering regional cooperation.
